People in NY are like people anywhere else, they know how to cook. In fact, with the best food stores around a lot of people really love to cook and more and more specialty food stores are cropping up. We love to go to specialty stores for meats, other stores for cheese, other stores for fish, and other stores for fresh made pasta, etc.
When you buy an apartment in NY, one of the things that sells an apartment is how well laid out the kitchen is, and how upscale the appliances are. I have a Thermador double oven, Gagginou stove (that has to go), and needless to say SubZero makes a fortune in NYC. But, anyway, all this wonderful equipment does not just sit there. Yes, a lot of times we do call out for food. This is a city that runs at a high pace and people don’t get home until quite late and who wants to start cooking at 8 or 9 o’clock. But on the nights you are home at a reasonable time and weekends, the cookbooks come out and a lot of cooking is done. If you saw the lines at the food stores you wouldn’t ask this question. As we have a car we have been known to drive to NJ to go shopping for basics. My husband is a fantastic cook and yesterday we went cookbook shopping and we both spent the evening going through marking what we want to try. So, no, people do not only call out for food, a lot of us do in fact know how to cook and can even throw Dinner Parties.
