When someone waste a lot food in buffet, should the manager talk to the customer or the waite?
Can someone tell me why and why not please?
I mean should the waite or the manager talk to the customer and tell them not to waste so many food.

Hello Mike:

In this instance, both the waiter and the manager might speak with the customer, depending on the reason the customer gives for the wasting of food.

The waiter might ask the customer if there was anything wrong with the food that they took from the buffet, because it was not eaten. If they say something was wrong with the food, then you can report this to the manager. If they say there was nothing wrong with the food, then the waiter can report the waste to the manager also, and the manager can speak to the customer directly about wasting food.

Today, most buffet restaurants have signs posted that say, “Please do not serve more than you can eat” and “Please Do Not Waste Food” , or “Please Serve Only What You Can Eat”. Customers would not be offended by this type of notice, and would probably welcome the reminder, since it protects other customers from people who waste food, leaving more for them to sample.

Some managers don’t like to remind customers that they’re wasting food because they feel that the customer will get offended and not come back. In this economy, it’s better for this kind of customer to stay away from your Restaurant anyway. Wasting food is a sign of poor manners and inconsiderate behavior toward the restaurant and other customers.

Thank you for trying to be a good restaurant and making it better for customers that don’t waste the food. May you have great tips in the New Year!
